Community

Catoctin Creek Village is based on a cohousing model of community design and management.  Cohousing is one of the fastest growing new home markets in the US.  Blending private home ownership and personal privacy with community interaction and cooperation, cohousing has been called “the old fashioned community of the future.”

At Catoctin Creek Village, neighbors:

Enjoy a safe, quiet, family-friendly environment;

Preserve and enjoy the beauty of our nature conservancy;

Share hobbies and interests like fishing, horse-back riding, and woodworking;

Organize and participate in activities like boating, stargazing, hiking, community dinners, games, and movies;

Create cooperative projects like trail-making and vegetable gardening;

Community activities and property are managed jointly by the owners.  Currently, the Catoctin Creek Village owners hold a general business meeting and potluck about once a month.   There is usually some kind of seasonal party, casual dinner, children’s event or other social event at the common house about once a month.   As more households move in, community dinners are likely to be organized about once a week.   Attendance at community meetings and events is always optional.

Each member is asked to contribute 4 hours per month to community work such as grounds maintenance, common house cleaning and repair, bookkeeping, barn maintenance, marketing and event support.    This is a flexible program which allows members to swap hours with others, accumulate them from month-to-month, or pay an HOA premium instead.
